Precious
Not only does AAVA help young animals like the bottle-babies, but our hearts are also with older pets, who are often surrendered to shelters due to an owner’s inability to continue caring for their animals or sometimes, sadly, just because they are no longer puppies or kittens. Precious is one of these lucky souls who was surrendered to AAVA after her elderly human mom could no longer care for her, and she has been in heaven ever since.
Precious is an eight-year-old Chihuahua who was brought to our foster by a family member with what was thought to be a fatty tumor on her belly. Our foster’s son wrapped Precious in a blanket to keep her warm and the foster recognized the dog had to go to the vet. The foster brought Precious home and gave her a bath to remove the thousands of fleas that covered her. The next day, Precious went to the vet, and tt was discovered there that her golf-ball sized tumor was actually a symptom of mammary cancer. The tumor was removed, and also, while at the vet, Precious had to have four rotten teeth pulled. She went back to her foster home, where she was kept on crate rest for another week until recently, she was able to spend the night sleeping with her foster mom and did well.
As AAVA has learned, Precious more than lives up to her name, since all she wants is to be held and loved. She is a gentle little dog who will require a very special adoptive home where she is able to get lots of attention and there are no young children. In her later years, Precious, like many other dogs and cats, was able to find her way to AAVA, where a loving foster home has given her much adoration. Our wonderful vets were able to make Precious feel better and more at home in her new surroundings by pulling her rotten teeth and removing her tumor. None of this would be possible without the help of volunteers, fosters, and donors.
