Stories of Rescue

The Seven Dwarves

Asker, Rupert, Lucy, Samatha, Brad, Angelina, and Lexie are seven newborn puppies who lost their mother before they had even opened their eyes.  As told to our volunteers, a stray dog who had been hanging around a Vermilion Parish neighborhood was hit by a car.  Sadly, she did not make it, but prior to the accident, she had thankfully given birth to her seven beautiful puppies.

Later, after the unfortunate accident had happened near his home, a man heard cries coming from under his shed, and he guessed that the stray dog had left a family behind.  Sure enough, he found the baby pups, who were cold, dirty, and very, very HUNGRY.  They were then taken in by a kind neighbor before being surrendered at an adoption event to AAVA for more intensive care.  A group of volunteers bottle-fed the babies and named them during the adoption event before they went home with one of our fosters.

Currently, AAVA has a few volunteers experienced in bottle feeding and caring for newborn dogs and cats, so this group of seven pups are in great hands right now, but we can always use more fosters, experienced or not.  We’re willing to help new fosters through the process of caring for dogs and/or cats, and would like to note that many of the animals in our care are often older than these newborns, so don’t be intimidated from volunteering to foster by the young age of these dogs.
